What are cold sores?
Labial cold sores, popularly known as cold sores, are a benign condition that is nevertheless annoying and recurring. Cold sores are small painful vesicles, or blisters, that often appear around the lips and mouth. After a first infection, the virus remains in the body during a person’s entire lifetime.
The symptoms disappear on their own within 7 to 10 days. Recurrences are often preceded by the following symptoms: tingling, itching, burning sensation and numbness around the lip area. In the hours that follow, the small red vesicles appear.
